As in real life, bumbling through the jungle without a direction or purpose is a sure fire way to get lost, and this is a testament to the game’s world.Īs such, navigation is a major part of the gameplay. Sunlight breaks through dense foliage animals skitter and scurry around in the undergrowth. With the setup out the way, it has to be said – Green Hell has one of the best looking jungle environments I have ever seen in a videogame.
Things quickly take a turn (don’t they always?), and you end up separated from your wife Mia, who you then spend the remainder of the game trying to find. Set in the Amazon rainforest, you play as Jake Higgins, an author who is researching material for his new book on the hidden tribes of the Amazon rainforest. This isn’t the start of a diary of my adventure with Bear Grylls, but an average hour spent playing Green Hell, a new survival game from developers Creepy Jar. The answer will be a resounding yes.I am deep in the Amazon jungle, and I am lost. Though really I guess asking people in the Green Hell subreddit if Green Hell is good is like going to a Hitler youth session and asking if they think Hitler is great. Despite the fact that they're both survival games they're so different that it's difficult to compare them. Once you've finished with the story, the survival mode just isn't as interesting as the forest, but that's not to say that it isn't worth buying. However, you will get a lot less hours out of green hell than you will the forest for a few reasons: 1) less items to find and make 2) less enemies to fight 3) less structures to build 4) there isn't a real endgame like the forest has. It definitely feels a bit less buggy and more polished, too, but even then it's far from perfect. Personally, I think green hell has a significantly better story than the forest. Green hell is the opposite, with hardcore survival being the primary focus. The forest is very focused on exploration, combat and base building with the survival element almost taking a back seat. Post unmarked/unflaired spoilers or threads with spoilers in the title.
